Autumn is upon us! Yeah!

3 Oct

Magickal greetings,all!
Can you feel it?! Outside? It’s getting a little chillier at night and the winds that blow make you take notice that maybe a sweater was in order. The trees are changing color…green is giving way to shades of brilliant reds, yellows, oranges – and, as you go by, some leaves are falling to the ground and crunching underfoot. Soon those leaves will be in piles and the joyous sounds of children (and, of course, adults) will echo through the neighborhood as the piles are destroyed by gleeful jumpers.
This is my favorite time of the year. Not because of candy treats but because of the magick, the ghost stories, and the veil between the worlds is growing ever thinner. There will soon be the faint smell of wood burning, and children’s laughter as they choose their costumes and dream of bags full of candy treats that will soon fill their tummies.
Pumpkins are all of a sudden for sale everywhere. Not yet carved, they still seem to smile and beckon to passersby to stop and buy one for $3 or 4 for $10. Soon they will be on porches and stoops, carved into faces and other spooky things.
This is the season…the Season of the Witch. October 31st marks our highest holiday. As mentioned earlier, the veil between the two worlds has made it to its thinnest point – enabling all who wish to speak with their Akhu (beloved dearly departed). Divination seems easier at this time of year because of that thinning veil. Our Akhu, loved ones who have passed, seem closer.
Asking them to assist with whatever form of divination chosen is often done. Some of the more common firms of divination used are: scrying in water which is in a dark bowl, Tarot cards, oracle cards, flame staring, runes, tea leaf reading stones/crystals, stick throwing – too many to name! Whatever you feel most comfortable using!
Cats are, of course, invited to partake in the festivities and ritual. I have four – they wander in and out of my ritual space all the time. Some sit for a spell, quietly observing, sometimes appearing to see something I can’t. They will cock their heads back and forth in a way that makes me believe they really do see more than I ever do!
Enjoy Samhain this year, in the darkness of the night, when the children have safely made it home after trekking through the neighborhood. Take a moment to breathe in the scents of not only the outdoors but also the indoors as your incense burns and your candles flicker mysteriously. Enjoy the sense that your blessed Akhu are with you and living you and may be attempting to send you a message.
Enjoy this celebration of the Fall!
Bright blessings!
The Wheel of the Year has turned – to a time when our ancestors and many people still today, gather all they can to make it through the coming harshness if Winter.
Samhain, October 31st, is the Wiccan New Year, our Day of the Dead (which is celebrated in Mexico on November 1st). Many rituals performed on this evening include much reverence to those who have passed. A “dumb supper” (an extra plate of food at the dinner table) is generally put out to welcome all who may visit.
The altar is filled with candles and photos, momentos, written memories of our Akhu.

Blessed Mabon

22 Sep

Greethings! The Harvest Moon, or Hunter’s Moon, had come and gone, a beautiful site to see in our night sky. This is my favorite Moon as it begins the harvest season, of corn stalks and pumpkins on the porch, apples and cider, the crunch of leaves beneath our feet.

Frost is coming – we’ve had cool mornings lately  – it can’t be far behind now. Time to gather the herbs and any other ready goodies from the garden! Bring the bounty inside.. Also under the Harvest Moon, spell work is at hand-

abundance and nurturing.!And Mabin- today – Sunday 9/22/13 – the Autumnal Equinox.  The Second Harvest – the Witches Thanksgiving. Celebrate!

I have prayed, cried…where do I go now!?

20 Sep

I am sick but no one can figure out why…I have no energy, no breath, abdominal pain with nausea, computing and diarrhea, hives all over. All I do is sleep – night and day. I am in chronic pain from my 2007 car accident. No one seems to care how I feel. Doctors scoff that if I get admitted it looks bad for them when nothing can be found; ER doctors refuse outright to treat chronic pain – they are too busy for that. Finally saw a rheumatologist…testing for lupus. No answers yet. Always waiting.

I wish I lived in the time of ancient Egypt. Yes, times were tough as evidenced by the myriad of diseases and injuries on mummies. But there was no secret….you were ill, you had angered someone (a God/dess perhaps), you did your penance, you took the healing potion and if it worked, great! The Gods had looked formidably upon you! If not, you got worse and died.

Is that my fate? Have I not lit enough candles, chanted the correct lines, asked the correct God/dess for their assistance!? I say a prayer to Bast everyday – she is my spiritual mother. I know she hears and she answers.

I know I have done wrong things and have made amends. I am trying homeopathic medication now – nothing else seems to work. Why not? Can’t hurt! I was a good nurse, one of the best around here – nurses still tell me that when they are taking care of me. Nice to hear.

i just want to know what’s wrong with me and get it fixed – is that too much to ask? Lady Bast, take pity on me and show me your mercy. I’d just like to be able to move around my house without getting sick, or go out with friends again without begging off when they get here. Lady Bast, I ask for your favor, as your humble servant. Dua Bast!

Justin the Philadelphia burned kitten!:(

6 Aug

This is Justin – he was burned on his head and back and other areas by some creep in Philly. He was only weeks old. 😿Some wonderful lady found him and he has been rehabbed by New Jersey Animal Alliance (I think) and is now 3 1/2 months old and in a great home, doing very well. Praise be to Bast for bringing good people into his tiny life and helping him to heal!

Shadow

Our newest Child of Bast that joined our family a few weeks ago. Her elderly owner had to relinquish her to our vet to go into a nursing home. She’s a doll! Cuddly. Mouthy. She’s been diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. 😦 But we’re getting it under control. Yeah!

Nebt-het: Lady of the House

In the book’s preface, we learn that Nebt-het: Lady of the House started life as a “formal academic paper” for the author’s master’s degree. While Amazon lists the book as containing 36 pages, in actuality the “meat” of this book is only 9 1/2 pages. It reads just like a paper, too: rather dryly.

The preface to the 2010 edition is a spiritual dedication to Nebt-het herself, so I expected the rest of the book to follow suit. It does not. After the 9 1/2 pages of the paper, there is an additional 9 pages of references or “Notes”, another 3 pages of “Bibliography and Works Cited”, and 6 1/2 pages of alternative names and associations of Nebt-het. $12 is a lot to pay for 9 1/2 pages of someone’s school paper, a lot of…
